To implement best practice strategies that supports the Georgias Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) State Plan for preventing and reducing out-of-wedlock pregnancies. Such strategies will focus on adolescent reproductive health (family planning) services, including abstinence education; youth development; public education, professional training, and technical assistance. This program is targeted to Georgias youth, 10 through 19 years of age. Funding will begin July 1, 2009 and end June 30, 2010.
Rationale
The goal of this funding is to accomplish the following:
delay the initiation of out-of-wedlock teen sexual activity;
promote teen pregnancy prevention;
collaborate with schools, faith-based organizations, non-profit organization and other governmental agencies; and
identify and eliminate the disparities related to teen pregnancy and its effects among different population groups.
Out-of-wedlock teen pregnancy leads to poor school and work performance and a cycle of dependency on public assistance.
